Elite athletes are more than a single story. They have a purpose greater than their accomplishments, greater than their physical attributes, + greater than the role they play in the eyes of others.
Elite athletes are strong, disciplined, and talented. Their sport is a vehicle for life learning and a powerful expressive outlet. Their fellow athletes provide a community, understanding, and belonging.
Elite athletes experience pain, devastation, and sometimes trauma. They are human and need others to help heal. When the trauma heals, the power of their unique story and their truth can be used to empower others.
Elite athletes can be healers. They are souls with a purpose for good. Their vulnerability becomes a power for healing. The special status and experience as an elite athlete capture the attention of a child. Their caring relationship can be a game-changer in a traumatized child's life for the good.
Children who have been traumatized need inspiration and hope. VAProElite mentors provide this and change the child's life as a result.
Our mentorship program provides an opportunity for mentees to learn and dream, to enhance their self-esteem and confidence and revisit their life values and purpose. Through 1:1 mentoring and individualized clinical assessments and treatment planning, our mentors and licensed counselors work with at risk youth to provide communication and social skills building.
Our "I Am" academic and career development training is a fundamental aspect of youth development and leadership. Our programs help youth develop into competent adults who lead, preparing them to be successful academically and in the workplace.
Once youth discover their career and life goals, they become more motivated to focus on health and wellbeing and learn how to manage stress and physical, psychological, and emotional distress as well as seek out more positive social relationships through sport and play because they realize this is important to helping them achieve their goals.
